IN COURT, FG PREVAILS OVER ASUU’S ABOUT “NO WORK, NO PAY” POLICY.

The ‘no work, no pay’ approach adopted by the FG in the lawsuit brought against the ASUU has been affirmed by the National Industrial Court.

The court, presided over by President Justice Benedict Kanyip, ruled that it is absolutely permissible for the FG to apply the “no work, no pay” policy to ASUU members who took part in the strike last year.

According to Channels Television, the court ruled that the Federal Government has the power to withhold workers’ wages if they engage in industrial action.

However, the court ruled that forcing the Integrated Payroll & Personnel Information System (IPPIS) platform on ASUU members who reserve the right to decide how their salaries should be paid is a violation of university autonomy.

When the strike was called off on October 7, 2022, the FG took ASUU before the National Industrial Court to demand that their salaries be paid from February 14 until that date.
