He did not believe Chioma Nwafor when she told her husband that their four-year-old had thrown up a balloon.

According to a hospital report received on Friday, the four-year-old Jayden has already “vomitted and stools several balloons  a total of 25 balloons so far, swallowed on May 26, 2023.”

How it took place
On Friday, May 26, her children’s school, Kids Glory, located in the Ago neighborhood of Lagos, celebrated Children’s Day under the banner of Color Day, according to Mrs. Nwafor.

The mother of three claimed that each of her children’s classes had a special balloon color for the occasion.

According to the mother, the toddler’s class utilized the color blue. Mrs. Nwafor claimed that a teacher persuaded her to bring her kids to the Color Day event despite her initial reluctance.

“The next day (Saturday), we went for rehearsal in church, and my son wanted to stool, then he stooled balloons, a big pink balloon,” the woman recalled.

“I didn’t have my phone with me to record it. My husband was informed about it. He questioned my assertion that a child could not possibly swallow a large balloon. It might be in pieces, he replied. Since I was the only one who noticed it, I decided not to press it any further.

“On Sunday (June 4), that week, he hadn’t been eating. I gave him a spanking and made him eat rice. The first spoon I gave him caused him to throw up a yellow balloon. He then passed a pink one after that. I was astonished at that point and told my spouse there was an issue.

It happened late at night, she claimed, and the next morning she took him to a hospital in the Lagos neighborhood of Ago.

They didn’t believe me when I told them in the hospital that there were balloons in his system. They didn’t believe me when I said that he passed balloons in his stool and that he had vomited. I displayed images to them. “Madam, if there are balloons in his system, he will choke,” they warned.

She said that an ultrasound had been done, but it had turned up nothing, yet she still wouldn’t leave the hospital.

Mrs. Nwafor reported that Jayden’s stomach had enlarged at that time.

“He threw up balloons there. When patients and medical professionals noticed it, they began to take me seriously. He pooped a lot of balloons when I carried him to the bathroom, including long ones in the colors pink, orange, purple, and other hues.

When the hospital made the decision to admit him, they said that they were unable to perform an operation since the ultrasound did not reveal that the balloons were still present.

After her husband joined her in the hospital, they brought their son home, where he once more puked balloons, according to Mrs. Nwafor.

She claimed that they submitted images and a video of the balloons along with a notification to the head teacher.

“She (the head teacher) stated she would contact me, but she never did. The instructors I submitted it to were attempting to determine whether the colors were from their own classes but failed to respond, according to Mrs. Nwafor.

Mrs. Nwafor added that the school’s action incensed her and motivated her to send the films to the WhatsApp group, but the group’s “admin” quickly removed them.

She claimed that was when she heard their opinions.

“They gave me a call and said they will fix it at my place. Together with two other persons, they brought a cleaner to the residence. They told my husband the teacher couldn’t make it because her residence was too far away when he asked where she was, she said.

“But my husband stated they can’t talk about it while the teacher isn’t there. My son once again threw up balloons while they were there. He threw up balloons in the car as we were attempting to transport him to the hospital.

Later, the parents would be invited to the school via WhatsApp by the school administration.

A portion of the communication reads, “With regard to the incident you brought to our attention on Monday, June 5th, 2023 regarding Jayden, we have completed our investigations and would like to discuss the outcome with you.”

Mrs. Nwafor asserted that the school administration informed her at the meeting that they had studied the footage she had submitted and had not discovered any blue balloons.

He didn’t puke blue balloons, despite the fact that they said his own class did. Other lessons are taking place upstairs not too distant from theirs. They claimed that his class cannot reach the other balloons. They added that parents are human and fallible.

“My kids confirmed that even with their schoolmates, they were popping balloons with their legs. However, the teachers insisted that there were only blue balloons downstairs in Jayden’s class.

Since Friday, numerous calls and texts to the school’s principal officers have gone unanswered.

Debra King, the head teacher, could not be reached, and Mr. Samuel, the school coordinator, did not return calls.

But Mrs. Oladele, Jayden’s class instructor, claimed that “the matter has been settled by the school management.”

She advised the journalist to go to the school for more information.
