Tunji Wusu –

During the 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), scheduled to take place on July 20, 2023 at the Nicon Luxury in Abuja, Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umoh Eno has finalized plans to present the “ARISE agenda.”

The goal of the effort is to turn around the state’s tourism fortunes and make it a must-visit location for travelers from all over the world. The ‘ARISE’ Agenda is designed to encourage sizeable investments in improving and enhancing the state’s tourism infrastructure. It is the first official platform to present his master-plan to enhance the Akwa Ibom tourism industry.

The governor, who is also the Special Guest at the FTAN AGM, will talk at the forum about how the ARISE agenda aims to take Akwa Ibom tourism to new heights.

Governor Eno said in a statement that by putting eco-friendly practices into place, protecting natural resources, and safeguarding the region’s rich biodiversity, its breathtaking landscapes, and its distinctive ecosystems, the event would highlight sustainable tourism initiatives. “The state of Akwa Ibom is home to a plethora of cultural gems just waiting to be found. The conference would also include destination marketing and promotion via planned initiatives, partnerships with industry insiders, and attendance at international tourism fairs. Additionally, the state may develop a sustainable tourist environment that benefits the populace by involving local communities in the industry, offering training and chances for entrepreneurship, and supporting local enterprises.

And he added: “With the ARISE agenda, Akwa Ibom State is poised to become a premier tourism destination, offering breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences.”

Nkereuwem Onung, National President of FTAN, commented that the governor’s action shows a willingness to not only include tourism in the overall plan of things but also to unite and build an alliance with the organized business sector to support the promotion of tourism.

The well-crafted theme, “Tourism: Today and Tomorrow- Setting Agenda for the New Administration,” is timely and prompt to meet the trend of things in the country as Nigeria is experiencing a new face of leadership trend, the FTAN president assured that this year’s AGM will be an interesting one.

In order to facilitate a B2B collaboration, we have established a sub-theme called “Community Involvement in Tourism Development: Building Partnerships for Sustainable.”
