Tunji Wusu –
In Yola, Adamawa State, three Islamic school students were killed by burning after their living room was destroyed by fire.
Our correspondent learned yesterday that the fire on July 7 killed two of the kids quickly, while the third passed away on July 8 at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.
According to reports, a coil used to ward off mosquitoes in the deceased’s shared room was the source of the fire.
The three were Almajirai, or Islamic school students, who lived on the grounds of their Sabon Pegi, Yola South Local Government Area, school.
The school’s owner, Malam Abubakar Usman, confirmed the fatalities.
He claimed that Mustapha Ahmadu, 17, passed away on Saturday morning at the hospital, while Ismaila Muhammadu, 12, and Yusuf Abubakar, 13, also died suddenly.
“On Friday night, at 11 p.m., after we had already gone to bed, one of the kids came in crying. When one of the huts caught fire, we hurried to put it out. As we were doing so, we discovered two dead Almajirai inside the burned-out structure, Usman added.
Islamic burial customs have been followed in burying the deceased.
