Tunji Wusu –

Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has requested in writing to the state House of Assembly that his one-month medical leave be extended indefinitely.

On July 10 in Akure, the Assembly’s Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, acknowledged receiving the letter.

Recall that on June 5, 2023, Akeredolu informed the lawmakers that he would be taking a “medical leave” and would return on July 6, 2023.

However, Akeredolu stated in his letter of extension that the request came as a result of medical professionals’ counsel regarding the necessity for him to have enough rest after healing.

The Speaker, who received the letter on behalf of other parliamentarians, stated that the governor’s conduct was in accordance with Section 190 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (as amended).

In the letter, Akeredolu stated that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, will “continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”
