Tunji Wusu –
Nigerians have been asked by President Bola Tinubu to remove governors who are not meeting expectations.
In response to some Islamic scholars’ request that the Federal Government oversee the distribution of palliatives granted to states to mitigate the consequences of the elimination of gasoline subsidies, the President made the appeal on Thursday, August 24, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He claimed, “The people live in the states. I will still need to go via the governors and the municipal governments, even if I put up a panel. We’ll keep having conversations with the governors.
They must answer to Nigerians. In a constitutional democracy, it is unheard of for the president to sit down and issue directives to the states. I can only implore them to do it.
State residents have the power to remove their governors if they are performing poorly.
