Sunday’s Serie A match between Juventus and Bologna ended in a 1-1 tie thanks to a late goal from Dusan Vlahovic.
The Bianconeri were booed off the field at halftime after Lewis Ferguson gave Bologna the lead in the 24th minute. With 10 minutes left, Vlahovic, whose previous goal had been disallowed for offside, headed in the equalizer.
By defeating 10-man Sassuolo 2-0, defending champion Napoli improved to 2-0. Lazio, who finished second last season, unexpectedly fell to newly promoted Genoa 1-0 at home.
Juventus began the new season with a 3-0 victory at Udinese after having a rough time last year. Bologna, which lost to AC Milan in its debut, faced a second difficult test.
Joshua Zirkzee attracted two defenders to him and was able to pass the ball to Ferguson, who had time to control and shoot into the far bottom corner to give the visitors the lead.
Following the boos at halftime, Juventus seemed to play with greater vigor in the second half and felt it had seized the lead seven minutes after the restart, but Vlahovic’s goal was disallowed because Adrien Rabiot was in an offside position.
When Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior and forward Dan Ndoye collided in the 70th minute, Bologna believed it should have been a penalty, but the referee waived aside their complaints. While one of his employees was dismissed, Bologna coach Thiago Motta was arrested for disobedience.
Ten minutes later, Iling-Junior contributed to the equalizer with a right-side cross that Vlahovi headed into the bottom right corner.
