A severe earthquake of a magnitude of 6.8 rocked central Morocco, killing at least 820 people and injuring many more.
The epicentre was located in the High Atlas Mountains, 71 kilometers (44 miles) south-west of Marrakesh, at a depth of 18.5 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.
On Friday, September 8, at 23:11 local time (22:11 GMT), an earthquake struck. According to BBC news, a 4.9 aftershock occurred 19 minutes later.
According to the country’s interior ministry, people died in Marrakesh and many regions to the south, and majority of the deceased are believed to be in rural areas.
According to the interior ministry, the earthquake killed around 600 people in the provinces and towns of al-Haouz, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
There have also been tales of families being trapped under the debris of their city homes, as well as d@mage to areas of the Medina.
