President Bola Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives, requesting that the N2.1 trillion extra budget for 2023 be approved.
The President also sent the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework & Fiscal Strategy Paper to the House of Representatives for approval, according to Channels Television.
On Monday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a N2.1 trillion supplementary budget for 2023 to handle labor pay adjustments, security, and other issues.
Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, stated after the FEC meeting in Abuja that the budget is to fund the aforementioned essential concerns.
He stated that N605 billion of the monies will be utilized for national defense and security to sustain and accelerate security advances, noting that these are funds that the security agencies require before the year ends.
Bagudu added that allocations will be made to preserve prior agricultural progress, and that the budget will also cover four months of wage awards for Federal Government employees and student loan monies.
The minister stated that the Federal Government authorized N18 billion from the supplementary budget for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct off-cycle elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States next month.
