Babatunji Wusu –
On December 16, 2023, the sub-regional competition will take place, according to the 2023 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon organizers.
This year’s competition will feature a 5-kilometer race designed for recreational runners and families, unlike prior editions where the race was restricted to the half-marathon distance.
A statement released on Monday stated that free registration forms will be given to interested people by the Rugby Federation office in Abuja, the AFN secretariat in Abuja, the sports offices in each of the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory, and the ECOWAS secretariat.
The 2023 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon is open for registration online at www.ecowasabujamarathon.com for those who would like to run.
This year’s starting points for the half marathon and 5 km races will be the ECOWAS Secretariat and the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, respectively.
Both races will conclude in Eagles Square, where there will also be other activities and entertainment.
Gabriel Okon, the race director of the 2023 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon, urged all Nigerians to use this platform to establish connections with individuals across the sub-region.
Okon also said that there will be a number of delicious prizes up for grabs during this year’s tournament because the ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon has risen in size.
We encourage our people, young and old, in Abuja and throughout the nation, to turn out in large numbers to participate in this year’s marathon since this year’s theme is encouraging integration among ECOWAS citizens, Okon stated.
