The Lagos State Police Command has a new Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade. After being redeployed as the AIG Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, he succeeds AIG Idowu Owohunwa.

On May 18, 1992, CP Fayoade, an indigenous of Ila-Orangun, Osun State, enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force. He graduated from Lagos State University with a B.A. in education/history and the University of Lagos with a master’s degree in public administration. From the National Open University of Nigeria, he also has an LLB.

He has taken courses both domestically and overseas, such as the Senior Executive Course 45 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos; Adopting Community Policing Ethos in Training Academy, USIP, Washington DC, USA; Leadership and Senior Management Course, Police Staff College, Jos; Leveraging International Police Cooperation Organizations for Countering Violent Extremism, Abu-Dhabi; and Criminal Justice Administration at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, USA.

When CP Fayoade was DPO Ilupeju and Victoria Island, respectively, he was named the 2007 and 2013 Best Divisional Police Officer in Africa by The Hague, Netherlands, and Nairobi, Kenya.

While serving as DPO on Victoria Island, he was also the recipient of the Lagos State Government Honour Award for Excellence in 2013, the National Association of Nigerian Students’ Youth Motivation Award, and the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria’s Meritorious Award on Crime Fighting, which he won twice.

He served in Taraba, Akwa-Ibom, and Abia States as a younger officer.

His prior positions include DCP Maritime Command, Lagos; DCP Administration at Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos; Commandant, Police Training College, Oyin-Akoko, Ondo State; Area Commander, Ota Area Command, Ogun State, where he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Oto Awori Community; and DCP State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos.

He was assigned to CP Armament at Force Headquarters, Abuja, following his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police in September 2022. From there, he went on to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos, where he was awarded the title of Member of the National Institute (mni) in December 2023.

In a statement released on Thursday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, encouraged the people of Lagos to support CP Fayoade to the fullest extent possible as he performs his responsibility of overseeing the state’s safety and security of people and property.
