Mustapha Inuwa, the former Katsina State Secretary to the State Government (SGS) under former governor Aminu Masari, has expressed his satisfaction with his choice to join the People Democratic Party (PDP) following the gubernatorial primary election, having previously served in that capacity for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Inuwa recently told reporters at his Katsina home that his switch to the PDP was essential to the party’s achievements, which included winning the presidential election and six House of Representatives seats.

Inuwa is adamant that his action has eventually helped the PDP, despite claims of victimization and vote-rigging in the state.

“The APC came in the 2019 election and PDP didn’t win any seats; it was 100% APC. However, this time, when we left the party and joined the PDP, the party was able to win six federal house of representative seats and the state’s presidential election. Prior to this, the APC failed to win a seat with the appointment of Governor Shehu Shema in 2010.

“It is evident that even though Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari is from Katsina State, we were able to defeat them with the help of the federal and state governments, as well as the money that was poured into the election,” the statement reads. “You are aware of what transpired in the Katsina senatorial election.” The PDP is officially the party with the most votes in Katsina.

How come I should regret it then? Leadership cited the former APC chieftain as saying, “It was demonstrated clearly that we added value to PDP and it was able to improve. If not for what happened within the PDP, we could have done far better.”

He continued by expressing his happiness with the PDP’s performance in the previous election and reiterating his preference for the PDP over the APC in the 2027 race.

Inuwa took part in the most recent APC primary for governor of Katsina, which saw Governor Umar Dikko Radda chosen as the party’s nominee.

But after the results of the election, he later joined the PDP.
