The 2024 budget for Rivers State, which was approved by the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and totaled N800 billion, has been declared void by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, January 22.
The News Telegraph remembers that the governor had given a group of four lawmakers from the state House of Assembly a N800 billion 2024 Appropriations Bill in December.
The budget was signed into law by Fubara after it was passed by Congress.
Following the attempt to impeach Fubara by 27 legislators loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, the Rivers Assembly became polarized.
James Omotosho, the presiding judge, ruled that the four MPs’ actions were all void.
Amaewhule was acknowledged by the court as the state assembly’s speaker as well.
