Babatunji Wusu –
The organized labor leadership and the federal government are currently meeting to discuss the planned nationwide protest that is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the government are meeting in Abuja, according to Television Continental (TVC).
Remember that Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, had called for a two-day statewide mass protest to raise awareness of the hardships that Nigerians are currently facing?
But before making the statement, the TUC chose not to participate in the two-day statewide protest against the NLC’s unwillingness to advance the union.
Additionally, the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Forum-affiliated Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) withdrew from the scheduled nationwide demonstration, numbering at least 65.
Recall that on October 2, 2023, following the completion of a 16-point accord, representatives of the government and leaders of organized labor signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
It was agreed that the government will deal with the pain of the populace caused by the elimination of gasoline subsidies and find a long-term solution to issues like inflation, depreciation of the naira, and insecurity, among other things.
Speaking during the media briefing, Ajaero charged that the Federal Government was not carrying out the deal that was struck in October.
