Reports claiming that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) named former international Austin Eguavoen as the Super Eagles’ temporary manager have been refuted.
that Jose Peseiro, the Portuguese coach, resigned over the weekend due to contract expiration.
The NFF reportedly ordered Eguavoen to take over as the Super Eagles’ interim manager when Peseiro resigned, according to stories that surfaced in a portion of the mainstream media and social media. Until the NFF appoints a permanent manager for the Super Eagles, Enyimba International coach Finidi George, who assisted Peseiro at the just finished AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, will act as Eguavoen’s assistant.
However, an NFF insider informed The Nation that this kind of allegation was a “joke.”
The source waved away rumors that Eguavoen had anything to do with the Super Eagles position and said the former captain of the national team isn’t even being considered as a temporary replacement.
The source claimed that individuals pushing Eguavoen for the position are merely fools and stated, “As far as I know, there’s nothing for Eguavoen, and, in fact, nobody ever mentioned him in any capacity for the Super Eagles.”
“I believe those guys are making jokes.” Eguavoen hasn’t been mentioned as the Super Eagles’ temporary manager.
