The Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, Peter Obi, gave an explanation of why he decided to break the Ramadan fast with Muslims at the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque in Abuja.
In a statement released on Tuesday on his official X Twitter, Obi said he went to the mosque to learn more about the conditions that Nigerians, who are still experiencing extreme hardship in their country, face.
According to the former governor of Anambra State, the visit represents cooperation and solidarity during this fortunate month of Ramadan.
Additionally, Obi said that he went to the mosque with Muslims to emphasize how important it is for leaders to have empathy and responsibility for those around them.
According to the previous governor, a new country’s leadership must meet its citizens where they are and understand their experiences and needs.
He wrote: “My team and I had the opportunity of feeding and breaking the Ramadan fast of the day with around 1000 individuals at the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque, symbolizing unity and cooperation during this auspicious season.
“These visits are invaluable opportunities for me to gain insight into the realities faced by our people, many of whom are enduring monumental hardships at this very moment, and also to demonstrate the need for leaders to show responsibility and empathy for the people around them.
“Leadership in our new nation must meet the people in their places of real need and experiences.”
