The Kano State Police Command announced Wednesday that 60 personnel had been sent to protect vulnerable primary, secondary, and postsecondary institutions in the capital city. The Inspector General of Police’s special schools protection police squad project, which aims to ensure that schools are effectively protected, will be carried out from a community policing viewpoint.
Speaking yesterday while outlining his achievements in the first year in office, Kano Commissioner of Police Muhammad Usaini Gumel stated that the goal is to make learning more conducive and to provide maximum protection to children. Similarly, the police commissioner stated that over 3,000 criminals had been apprehended and prosecuted for various offences in the last year.
He claimed the culprits were charged with kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, human trafficking, illegal drug trade, and thuggery. Gumel went on to say that during the review period, the command received and profiled a total of 623 repentant thugs, who are now being engaged by the state government in a variety of life-changing empowerment projects.
He went on to say that the command had also apprehended criminals who had occupied the ancient Dala Hill and utilized it as a hideout and enclave from which they perpetrated mayhem and other criminal operations against the people of the state in the previous year.
