Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has conveyed his sincere grief over the premature passing of Prince Ajibola Afonja.
Afonja, who served as First Bank Plc’s chairman and as a former minister of labor and productivity, passed away on Sunday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan at the age of 82.
Afonja’s passing was characterized as a startling event by Makinde in a statement issued by Mr. Moses, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media.
The Oyo native was recognized by Governor Makinde as a distinguished person who devotedly represented and advanced Oyo State’s interests.
He offered the immediate relatives of the deceased minister, the people of Oyo town, and the state his sincere sympathies.
Makinde prayed to God, pleading with him to give Prince Ajibola Afonja’s departed soul eternal peace and to comfort and assist his bereaved family and community.
“I received the news of the death of a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja, with shock and sadness.
“Prince Afonja was a great ambassador of Oyo State, who promoted the state and made immense contributions to its growth.
“It is my prayer that God grant repose to his soul and grant him Aljana Firdausi,” the governor said.
