“Gunmen Posing as Land Buyers Kill Three in South-East”

In Anambra State, three individuals were brutally murdered after being lured to a location under the pretense of a land transaction. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Monday in Isionye, a suburb of Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area. This area lies on the boundary between Enugwu-Ukwu and Nawfia.

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra State, the victims were deceived into meeting at the site by individuals posing as potential sellers. Upon arrival, the group was attacked with guns and machetes. In addition to the three fatalities, five others sustained serious injuries.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono, has directed a thorough investigation into the murders and urged the community to remain calm. Police operatives have recovered a Sienna vehicle abandoned by the assailants. The injured victims are receiving medical treatment, and the bodies of the deceased have been taken to a morgue.

Community tensions in Enugwu-Ukwu have been heightened by allegations of unauthorized land sales by local leaders. In 2020, there were protests by youths in the area regarding similar issues of land mismanagement in the Isionye region.
