Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has approved the construction of a modern psychiatric hospital in Obi Akpor Local Government Area. This decision comes amid ongoing tensions between Fubara and his political mentor-turned-rival, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who hails from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor.
Wike, during a reception hosted by the Ijaw Peoples Assembly in Port Harcourt on Saturday, expressed his discontent with Fubara’s leadership, indicating that he would “teach Fubara and his supporters a big lesson” when the time is right. He remarked, “In Rivers, they are contemplating APP. It’s not about money; you can have all the resources, but without capacity, there is no progress. The envy of our growth fuels these controversies.”
In response, Fubara addressed the matter at an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, asserting that his achievements within one year surpass the performance of his predecessors over eight years.
