The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that electricity will be restored to Northern Nigeria within three days. Responding to senators’ inquiries on Tuesday regarding regional outages and frequent grid collapses, Adelabu provided updates on the situation.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria reported an outage across the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria on October 22, caused by a tripped 330-kV Ugwaji-Apir double circuit transmission line. Additionally, insurgent vandalism affected the Shiroro-Kaduna line, a key supplier of power to the North.
Following this, President Bola Tinubu instructed the military to secure workers repairing the lines. Adelabu noted that as a temporary solution, power will be supplied through the Ugwuaji-Makurdi line, which can cover about 80% of affected areas. With security support, the ministry is accessing the damaged grid to begin full repairs, which are expected to be completed in 14 days.
