Gunmen have taken the life of one policeman and injured another following an attack on their convoy in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area, Abia State. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Sunday while the officers, reportedly assigned to a federal lawmaker, were traveling in a Toyota Corolla. The lawmaker was not part of the convoy during the attack.
According to police sources, the attackers, dressed in black and wearing police jackets, blocked the convoy and identified the officers before opening fire. In the subsequent gunfire exchange, one officer lost his life, and the other was seriously injured, with concerns over his survival.
The attackers fled the scene as officers from the nearby Ubakala Division responded with gunfire. As of the time of reporting, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State, Maureen Chinaka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, had not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
