NBA superstar LeBron James announced on Wednesday that he is taking an indefinite hiatus from social media after expressing frustration with the negative tone of U.S. media coverage. His decision came after sharing a post by Rich Kleiman, the longtime agent of NBA star Kevin Durant, who criticized the media for focusing on negativity in sports coverage.
Kleiman wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of the national sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes. I for one find it all a waste of breath.” James responded with a simple “AMEN!!” before confirming his break, stating, “And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care.”
This is not the first time James has taken a break from social media. The 39-year-old NBA legend has previously stepped away from the platforms, often to focus on his basketball career. James’ recent comments, made after the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over Utah, hinted at his dissatisfaction with online criticism. Reflecting on the standout performance of Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht, who scored 37 points, James expressed frustration with being frequently accused of dishonesty. “Everybody on the internet calls me a liar all the time,” James said, defending his earlier comments about Knecht’s talent.
