The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has withdrawn its corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area due to ongoing herdsmen attacks. This decision was confirmed by Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Benue, in a statement issued on Thursday in Makurdi.
Adamu explained that the decision to withdraw corps members was taken in response to the repeated attacks on Mbaa, a community located near the Republic of Cameroon. The NYSC has not posted any corps members to this area since the attacks began.
To ensure the safety of its personnel, the NYSC State Coordinator instructed the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Kwande to carry out a headcount. The inspection confirmed that all corps members in the area were accounted for and safe, particularly those serving in Jato Acka Turan, far from the affected region.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of all corps members, assuring parents and guardians that the organization consistently collaborates with security agencies to protect them. The NYSC also encouraged parents to rely on official channels for accurate updates.
