President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday finally addressed the lingering political turbulence in Rivers State, breaking his silence on the issue.
Speaking at a meeting with leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, Tinubu disclosed that he had anticipated the crisis before it escalated.
He urged PANDEF to return home and champion peace in alignment with the rule of law, especially since the Supreme Court had already delivered its judgment on the matter. The president revealed that he had made multiple interventions—both behind the scenes and publicly—to broker peace in the state.
Reaffirming the necessity of upholding the rule of law, Tinubu stated: “I should not be here as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria if there is no rule of law.
“I have total confidence in our judiciary. Humans can err, but once the Supreme Court has ruled, that settles it.”
Meanwhile, reports has it that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to implement all Supreme Court directives to facilitate lasting peace in the state.
