-Southern sides start strong as Northern Conference ends in stalemates
-Yobe Desert Stars, Doma United seek redemption on Matchday Two
Kun Khalifat FC and Osun United kicked off their campaigns in style with crucial victories on the opening day of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs, held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Kun Khalifat edged Crown FC 1–0 to top Group A of the Southern Conference, while Osun United also secured a narrow 1–0 win over Warri Wolves to lead Group B. The wins place both sides in early control with three points apiece in their respective groups.
However, it was a cagey affair in the Northern Conference, where Wikki Tourists and Doma United settled for a goalless draw. Similarly, Barau FC and Yobe Desert Stars could not be separated, ending their encounter in a 1–1 stalemate. As a result, all four Northern teams share one point each.
The second round of fixtures promises high stakes as teams look to either consolidate or bounce back. Yobe Desert Stars will take on Doma United, while Wikki Tourists face Barau FC in what could shake up the Northern standings.
In the South, Crown FC will try to bounce back against an in-form Osun United, while Kun Khalifat FC will face Warri Wolves in a Monday clash that could determine the group’s shape.
The NNL Super 8 serves as the final promotion battleground, with four teams aiming for a spot in the top-tier Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
