-Sunshine Queens return to top flight with strong challenge
Bayelsa Queens, reigning champions of the Nigeria Women Football League, will square off against Sunshine Queens in a high-stakes friendly match today as both teams sharpen their squads ahead of the 2025–26 season.
The warm-up encounter will take place at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo City and is set to kick off by 4 p.m.
Bayelsa Queens are using the friendly to assess team chemistry and integrate four newly recruited players into their system. The match also serves as a preparatory ground for their campaign in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will represent Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Queens, who are staging a return to the top flight after a season in the lower division, will be looking to make a bold statement by challenging the current league holders.
The Yenagoa-based Bayelsa Queens clinched the league title last season, establishing themselves as a dominant force in Nigerian women’s football.
Both teams are expected to field competitive lineups as they seek momentum before the new season begins.
