The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a security guard identified as David Moses over the kidnap and gruesome murder of a 55-year-old caregiver and a one-year-old toddler in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the tragic incident occurred on July 23, 2025, at the Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki. The victims, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a nurse and caregiver at the school, and Nanenter Asher Yese, a toddler in her care, were reported missing that day.

While at the police station reporting the incident, the caregiver’s husband received a chilling ransom demand of N250 million via her mobile phone.

Acting swiftly, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit deployed digital forensics and traced the suspect to Yelwa and Uke areas of Nasarawa State. On July 29, David Moses, a security guard at the school, was arrested.

“Initially treated as a potential victim, Moses later confessed to conspiring with his friend, Sunday Irimiya, who is currently at large,” the statement said.

Investigations revealed that the suspects lured Mrs. Anaene to a bathroom within the school premises where she was strangled. The toddler was then taken from a classroom and murdered in a similar manner. The bodies were dumped in a canal, concealed in a sack and transported using a scavenger’s cart.

Moses later led police operatives to the exact location where the decomposed remains of the victims were recovered.

The Command extended its condolences to the bereaved families and reassured the public that all efforts are underway to apprehend the second suspect and ensure justice is served.

“While no words can ease such a loss, we assure the public that justice will be pursued with full resolve,” SP Adeh said, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity via the Command’s emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913.
