…Four arrested as police launch full-scale investigation

Tension has enveloped the Okeyimi Health Centre in Ado Ekiti after a newborn baby, barely a day old, vanished under unclear circumstances from the facility.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday when healthcare workers on duty discovered that the baby was missing during a routine check. The shocking discovery plunged the hospital into chaos, with the infant’s mother, her family, patients, and staff gripped by fear and confusion.

Sources within the facility said that the mother and several hospital personnel, including a security guard, have been taken into custody for questioning. The move is part of preliminary investigations aimed at unraveling how the baby disappeared from what should be a secure environment.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the hospital’s management were unsuccessful as of press time, leaving the public in the dark over internal actions being taken.

However, confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Command, SP Sunday Abutu, said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the missing child.

According to him, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered a full-scale investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the State CID to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that the missing baby is found,” SP Abutu said.
“So far, four persons have been arrested and are currently providing useful information to assist in our ongoing investigation.”

As the search intensifies, residents and human rights advocates have called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served and the child reunited with the family.
