The Plateau State government has rejected claims that it failed to meet the statutory deadline for submitting its 2024 audited financial statements to the Federal Government.
The rebuttal follows a recent publication by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), which listed Plateau among states allegedly defaulting on the timeline for filing their accounts.
In a statement on Wednesday, the state Accountant-General, Naanre Asabe Manset, clarified that the reports were “misleading,” stressing that Plateau submitted its financial statements to the Auditor-General in May 2025.
According to Manset, the statements were audited and transmitted to the State House of Assembly in June 2025, approved by lawmakers, and published online on July 30, 2025—well within the nine-month legal timeframe.
She questioned FIJ’s basis for including Plateau on the list of non-compliant states and urged the organisation to retract the claims.
“The government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and timely financial reporting,” she affirmed, directing the public to access the full report at Plateau State Government’s website.
