The Anambra State House of Assembly has denied reports that Governor Chukwuma Soludo influenced the suspension of Ayamelum Constituency representative, Abuchi Udemezue.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Ejike Okechukwu, the legislature described the allegations as “false, baseless, and mischievous.”
The clarification followed a press release by some federal lawmakers from Anambra North Senatorial Zone under the Labour Party, who had criticised Udemezue’s suspension.
Okechukwu explained that while the House would normally disregard such claims, it was important to set the record straight to prevent the public from being misled.
According to him, the disciplinary action was strictly a legislative matter. He said Udemezue was sanctioned after using “unparliamentary and offensive language” on social media, where he referred to his colleagues as “mad men.”
“The decision to discipline Hon. Udemezue was entirely an internal legislative affair and not at the behest of the Executive. Every member is bound by the constitution and the standing orders of the House. No one is above discipline,” Okechukwu stated.
The Assembly had earlier suspended Udemezue for three months after he failed to defend his comments before the House.
