The Nigerian Senate has blocked Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from resuming office even after the expiration of her six-month suspension.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, confirmed receipt of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notice of return but insisted she could not resume yet.
The Senate argued that her suspension remains in force until the Court of Appeal rules on the case she filed against the upper chamber. “The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.
The Senate maintained that any decision on her return to the red chamber would only be reviewed after the appellate court delivers its judgment.
