A shocking discovery was made on Sunday morning at the National Assembly complex, Abuja, when the decomposed body of a man was found inside a parked vehicle at the annex gate.

The deceased, identified as Mr. Gaddafi Iwar, a 55-year-old Tiv man, was reportedly a labourer working at a construction site within the legislative complex.

According to eyewitnesses, security personnel on duty raised alarm after noticing a foul smell coming from a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF. Upon inspection, the lifeless body of Mr. Iwar was found slumped inside the vehicle around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Authorities immediately evacuated the remains to the National Assembly Clinic, where medical staff confirmed that the victim was already dead. The body was later moved to the Asokoro General Hospital. However, hospital officials declined to admit the corpse due to its advanced state of decomposition.

Faced with the health risk, members of the Tiv community in Abuja, alongside youth leaders, stepped in to take custody of the body. They transported it to Gbawu Village, a border community between Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje Area Council, where the deceased was finally laid to rest.

Though the exact cause of death remains unknown, sources within the National Assembly suggested that Mr. Iwar may have died days before his body was discovered, given the condition of decomposition.

Security operatives have not issued an official statement regarding the incident, but investigations are reportedly underway to determine the circumstances leading to the death.

The discovery caused panic among staff and passersby at the National Assembly, with concerns raised over the safety and welfare of labourers working within the complex.

Community leaders have called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation while also urging improved welfare and monitoring systems for casual workers engaged in projects inside the National Assembly.
