The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, who died on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Ngbaronye reportedly passed away at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, shortly after undergoing surgery — a development the Command described as a “devastating loss.”

In an official statement released on Saturday, the Police said CSP Ngbaronye earned widespread respect for her professionalism, integrity, and exceptional commitment to public service.

“She was a truly upright and dedicated officer whose humane approach to policing strengthened trust between the Force and the communities she served,” the statement said, noting that she was never found wanting in the discharge of her duties.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the news came as a rude shock to the entire Command, extending deepest condolences to her family — especially her aged mother, husband, and elder brother, a priest — whom he personally reached out to.

The Command said burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
