
Few hours after the Senate confirmed the appointments of new Service Chiefs on Wednesday, the Presidency expressed delight over the development, describing it as a reflection of harmony between the Executive and the Legislature.
In a statement personally signed by the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, the Presidency commended the Senate for the smooth and speedy screening process that led to the confirmation of the nominees.
Senator Lado, who coordinated the engagement between the two arms of government, said the successful confirmation underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to effective governance and the strengthening of national security.
“As the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, I facilitated this crucial interface to ensure a smooth and coordinated engagement between the Executive and the Legislature, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to effective governance and national security,” he said.
Lado described the appointments of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Sunday K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, as a strategic step towards reinforcing Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to him, the new appointments are aimed at fostering synergy among the Armed Forces for the protection of the nation’s sovereignty and safety of citizens.
“I extend my profound appreciation to the President of the Senate, the Senate Leadership, and Distinguished Senators for the prompt and thorough consideration that led to the confirmation of the new Service Chiefs,” he added.
He further noted that the Senate’s prompt action demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature in advancing national interests.
“Their commitment underscores the strong collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature in advancing the national interest and ensuring the security and stability of our dear nation,” Lado stated.
The Senate had earlier on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of the four new Service Chiefs after about four hours of closed-door screening during plenary
