As Anambra prepares for its November gubernatorial election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged voters to resist vote buying and other forms of inducement that threaten the integrity of the polls.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Thursday, the electoral body cautioned the electorate against exchanging their votes for cash or material gifts, emphasizing that such actions erode democracy and stall meaningful progress.
“Reject stomach infrastructure. Demand real development. Say NO to vote buying,” the Commission declared, reaffirming its pledge to deliver a free, fair, and credible election.
INEC also appealed to political parties and candidates to focus their campaigns on policies and programmes that can improve citizens’ welfare rather than exploiting voters’ economic hardships for political advantage.
