Nigeria’s film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu, who died on Wednesday evening after a brief illness.
Movie director and actor Kunle Afod confirmed the passing in an emotional Instagram post, describing the late thespian as “a great legend.” Afod wrote, “It saddens my heart as I announce the passing of our great legend, a great actor who passed away after a brief illness. BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace.”
Tributes poured in from across the industry as colleagues expressed shock and grief. Actor Yemi Solade prayed for God to forgive the late actor’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
Actor Akin Olaiya simply wrote, “Rest in peace, Baba.”
Veteran actress Saje added, “May his soul rest in peace.”
Actor Abiodun Thomas wrote, “Rest on, Pa Olowomojuore, may God continue to bless all that you left behind.”
Actress ShoA Kosoko, sharing a heartbreak emoji, mourned him as a “Legend.”
Baba Gebu, celebrated for his distinct acting style and rich contributions to Yoruba Nollywood, leaves behind a legacy cherished by colleagues and fans.
