A fresh power struggle rocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday as Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, alongside the newly elected National Chairman, Taminu Turaki, stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and drove out the faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
Tensions escalated when both the National Working Committee (NWC) elected in Ibadan and the pro-Wike bloc scheduled parallel meetings at Wadata Plaza. The move set the stage for a showdown between the rival camps.
Trouble began after Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Wike-backed faction, arrived at the secretariat with his team to hold their scheduled meeting. A scuffle reportedly erupted within the premises, prompting security and loyalists of the new leadership to forcefully eject the Wike group from the building.
Shortly after, Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Chairman Turaki pushed their way into the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) hall, insisting on holding their own NEC meeting as the party’s recognized leadership.
The incident underscored the deepening internal crisis within the opposition party as competing factions battle for control.
