Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has stirred fresh debate among nursing mothers after advising women to avoid bathing their newborns every day, warning that the practice could damage the babies’ delicate skin.
Makinwa, who recently welcomed her first child at age 40, made the remark in a video shared on her social media page. She argued that newborns are “naturally clean,” insisting that daily baths are unnecessary.
According to her, babies come from a clean environment in the womb and do not engage in activities that make them dirty. She explained that she opts to wipe her baby instead of bathing her daily, noting that excessive water exposure could harm a child’s fragile skin.
“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months… I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary,” she said. “You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there.”
Her statement has triggered a mixed reaction online, with some users supporting her approach while others questioned her experience as a new mother and her lack of medical expertise.
