Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the release of 38 worshippers abducted during last week’s attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area.
The victims regained freedom on Sunday after days of sustained, coordinated operations by security agencies and federal authorities.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor said the breakthrough followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive for heightened security action in the wake of recent attacks in Kwara and Kebbi states. The directive, he added, led to the deployment of additional tactical teams to bolster operations in the state.
AbdulRazaq applauded the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as “critical roles” in securing the hostages’ release.
He further praised community leaders and residents for rallying behind authorities throughout the ordeal.
Security agencies have yet to disclose details of the rescue or confirm whether any suspects were arrested.
