Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has warned that the party could lose the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election if it fails to field a strong and experienced candidate.
Omisore issued the warning during consultation visits to party members in Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government Areas on Wednesday. He stressed that only an aspirant with previous elective experience can rescue the state from what he described as “the incumbent’s ill-governance.”
According to him, stakeholders have been urging him to join the 2026 governorship race, insisting he possesses the competence required to reposition the state.
“If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will fail and lose,” Omisore declared. “We must not leave the party ticket to the free will of an individual. The governorship of a state must be a collective testimony of stakeholders.”
He cautioned the party against selecting candidates based on personal relationships, saying, “You should not hire your friend for a job he can’t deliver. All of us contesting this race are brothers.”
Omisore urged party faithful to rally behind him during the APC primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.
“I charge all of us to troop out on December 13, 2025, and show love by choosing me as the party’s candidate,” he appealed.
The Consultation Coordinator, Ajibola Famurewa, expressed confidence in Omisore’s chances, citing strong support across local governments.
“Every local government we visited showed us love and acceptance. I am confident Senator Omisore will emerge as the APC flag bearer,” he stated.
