Award-winning Afropop star Kcee has opened up on the real circumstances surrounding the breakup of KC Presh, admitting that he faced intense pressure when his musical partner, Presh, proposed they pursue solo careers.

In an interview on Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee dismissed claims that the split stemmed from conflict or external influence, insisting there was no fallout between them. He noted that their artistic directions became distinct over time, with Presh leaning towards R&B while he embraced Afropop.

Kcee disclosed that he felt pressured by the decision because many fans considered Presh the stronger vocalist and believed he was the glue holding the group together. Despite the public perception, Kcee maintained that he handled most of the behind-the-scenes work that drove the group’s success.

“The breakup wasn’t due to any disagreement. We didn’t have any issue. People praised Presh’s voice, but they don’t know the work that goes on behind the scenes. I was the one doing most of the work,” he said.

The “Limpopo” hitmaker noted that the split eventually pushed him to work harder, deliver chart-topping hits and build a stronger solo career. He revealed that he later reached out to Presh to join his label, 5ive Music, but Presh declined, reportedly upset over how their careers evolved after their separation.

KC Presh shot to fame after winning the Star Quest talent show in 2002 and went on to release three albums before officially dissolving the group in the 2010s.
