Popular Nigerian reality TV star and comedian, Aderombi Adedayo, widely known as DeeOne, has confirmed that celebrity fashion designer Veekee James is his former lover, following her recent remarks describing him as “unserious.”
The disclosure comes after Veekee James, during an interview on Unfiltered and Extra Spicy with Ify’s Kitchen podcast, dismissed the comedian as someone not to be taken seriously. She argued that anyone who considers DeeOne serious must be “jobless or something else,” adding that she had never heard him make a serious statement.
Reacting to the comments, DeeOne revealed that he and the designer shared a romantic relationship after his exit from Big Brother Naija in 2018, describing the revelation as “a blast from the past.”
In a video posted on his Instagram page and captioned, “Ruth, you never still move on from this our matter,” the comedian insisted he had long moved on and urged fans to stop personalising celebrity disagreements.
“A lot of people don’t know this. When I came out from Big Brother Naija in 2018, myself and Ruth had something. She was a correct babe, sweet and good. That’s the truth,” he said.
DeeOne explained that the relationship ended due to incompatibility, stressing that he dislikes being controlled and not because of ill treatment. He added that several people within the entertainment industry were aware of their past, including Veekee James’ husband, Femi James.
“I don’t like when people control me or send me messages too much. I’m a boyfriend, not a house help,” he said, recounting moments he felt overwhelmed by demands during the relationship.
Despite the controversy, the comedian maintained there was no bad blood, stating that he supports Veekee James and her husband and wishes them well.
“I’m not a hater. I have moved on. If she’s upset and feels I did something I don’t know about, I’m sorry. From me, it’s all love,” he added.
DeeOne concluded by cautioning fans against taking entertainment industry issues personally, noting that many behind-the-scenes realities remain unknown to the public. He emphasised that his response was necessary only because the comments about him were negative.
