Commissioner of Police (CP) for Lagos state, Zubairu Muazu, has given orders for sustained patrols and surveillance across the state to maintain law and order.
According to a statement released today and signed by the state command’s spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, it stated that the patrol was to ensure safety of residents of the state.
“Lagos State Police Command has intensified patrols in all the streets of Lagos to ensure the safety of the good people of the state. The Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu mni, has therefore called on residents to go about their lawful duties without any fear. The command wishes to thank the people of Lagos State for maintaining peace and urges them to keep availing the command of credible and timely information to enable it sustain the peace currently enjoyed in the state. The command uses this opportunity to warn hoodlums and persons with criminal intent that the command will not entertain any act capable of breaching the peace of the state,’’ the statement read.

Meanwhile, there has been relative calmness in the state this morning following the postponement of the presidential and the National Assembly elections.

Some of the residents, who spoke with newsmen were shocked to hear that the elections had been postponed.
It was observed that Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to Mobolaji Bank-Antony Road to MaryLand and Surulere axis, the few pedestrians on the roads were going about their normal businesses.
There was no visible presence of security men on the roads and some residents of the Surulere area of Lagos State were seen jogging to the National Stadium.
An Army patrol van was seen stationed at the roundabout after Teslim Balogun Stadium while the soldiers the van conveyed were seen sitting down to monitor the situation.
At the Ojota area, a resident, Mr Wale Oyewole, told newsmen that he got the news of the postponement of the elections late and decided to use the opportunity of the postponement to visit some friends.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State, Mr Tajudeen Balogun, also confirmed to tour correspondent that there was no report of any crisis in any part of the state as of 10 am
He said, “We have been around but we have not seen any crisis. Our men have not reported any crisis and everywhere is calm. The information (postponement) is straightforward and I don’t think there can be any crisis but our men and other security agencies are around.”
