The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has cautioned residents of Gwoza Local Government Area against collaborating with terrorists, urging communities to expose informants and individuals providing support to criminal groups.
Ndume issued the warning during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Gwoza, where he met with the traditional ruler, youths and key stakeholders to discuss security and social challenges confronting the area.
The lawmaker stressed that communities must take responsibility for their own safety by identifying and reporting anyone aiding terrorists, noting that betrayal from within remains a major threat to peace.
“We will not tolerate anyone serving as an informant. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with decisively. You cannot live among your people and betray them,” Ndume said.
As part of the visit, the senator also proceeded to Bulabulin/Gwoza-Wakani ward, where he obtained his All Progressives Congress digital membership card. He explained that the visit was aimed at mobilising residents for the ongoing APC electronic registration and Permanent Voter Card registration exercise, while also engaging them on security concerns.
Ndume further raised alarm over rising drug abuse and other social vices in Gwoza, disclosing that he had engaged the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to address the problem. He added that discussions were ongoing with women groups as part of efforts to tackle emerging social challenges.
On education, the senator encouraged youths to take advantage of institutions within the area, including the Federal College of Education, Gwoza, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, assuring that efforts were being made to support underprivileged students.
In his remarks, the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, expressed concern over increasing drug abuse among youths, warning that meaningful development cannot take place in communities grappling with substance abuse. He called on parents, traditional institutions and youths to work collectively to curb the menace.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Director-General of the National Women Development Centre urged youths to shun crime and engage in productive activities, while encouraging APC members to actively participate in the party’s digital registration and PVC enrolment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
