Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending one week in prison over allegations of assault and theft.
The singer was released on Monday, January 19, 2026, after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by the court.
Shortly after his release, Portable appeared in a video that has since gone viral on social media, where he dismissed the allegations against him, insisting he was framed. “They lied against me. I’m innocent,” the singer declared.
Portable was remanded in custody last week following accusations by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple, and her siblings, who alleged that he assaulted them and stole their vehicle.
The controversy began on New Year’s Eve when a video showing a heated confrontation between Portable and Ashabi surfaced online. In the clip, Ashabi was seen holding onto the singer’s clothes while repeatedly shouting, “Pami baby” (Baby, you have to kill me), a moment that quickly ignited widespread reactions across social media platforms.
In the aftermath of the incident, Ashabi and her siblings reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Portable’s arrest on allegations of assault and car theft.
The singer was subsequently arraigned last Monday before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, where he faced a nine-count charge bordering on theft, assault, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
The presiding judge ordered his remand in prison custody and adjourned the bail hearing to Monday, January 19, 2026. Upon meeting the bail conditions, Portable was released, bringing a temporary pause to a legal battle that continues to attract public attention.
