The Lagos State Government has intensified its crackdown on crime with the arrest of 75 suspected hoodlums during a late-night enforcement operation along the Coastal Road axis of the state.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, targeting identified criminal hideouts along the Coastal Road corridor.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, said the operation was part of sustained efforts to sanitise the area and strengthen public safety.

According to Wahab, 68 males and seven females were apprehended during the raid, while substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered from the scene.

The operation, however, turned violent when some of the suspects resisted arrest and attacked enforcement officers. Wahab disclosed that an officer of the taskforce, Inspector Omosanjo Mohammed, was assaulted and sustained a serious head injury during the confrontation.

He said the injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment.

The commissioner condemned the attack and warned that assaults on law enforcement personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He added that all the arrested suspects would be charged to court and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Wahab reiterated the state government’s commitment to restoring order and ensuring that Coastal Road and its surrounding areas remain safe for residents and commuters.
