The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has suspended Jimi Adebola Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged anti-party activities, escalating internal efforts to restore control and discipline within the party.

The suspension was announced on Saturday in Abeokuta by the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Femi Soluade, who said the decision followed what he described as actions that undermined the ADC’s internal democratic framework.

Soluade declared Lawal a non-member of the party, accusing him of engaging in activities inconsistent with the party’s principles and constitution.

“We have suspended Mr. Jimi Adebola Lawal and declared him a non-member of the party due to activities inconsistent with the principles and internal democratic framework of the ADC,” Soluade stated.

He further alleged that Lawal attempted to seize control of party structures through the systematic acquisition of two local government chapters and the dismantling of established state and local leadership frameworks.

According to the chairman, the crisis affected party structures in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu local government areas. However, he confirmed that the affected local government executives have now been reinstated to their original leadership positions in a move aimed at restoring balance, stability, and inclusiveness within the party.

In a related development, the ADC also unveiled a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in Ogun State pending the conduct of a state congress. Soluade described the move as part of a broader restructuring process designed to reposition the party and strengthen its internal cohesion ahead of future political activities.

The development signals a significant shake-up within the Ogun ADC as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate its structures and enforce discipline at all levels.
