Leader of the Opposition and head of the Kemi Badenoch has urged the United Kingdom to align with the United States and take decisive action against Iran following attacks on British military bases in the Middle East.

Badenoch issued the call after Iran reportedly launched strikes targeting UK bases in the region, escalating tensions and raising security concerns among Western allies.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, the Conservative leader insisted the UK must act firmly to prevent further attacks.

“We need to do everything we can to stop these attacks from happening,” she said.

Badenoch stressed the importance of listening to allies in the region who believe Britain has not been sufficiently supportive in recent developments.

“I think we should listen to what our allies in the region are saying. Even if we’re not talking about Iran, Cyprus feels like we haven’t been helpful. It’s surprising that Bahrain and Kuwait, which are part of the UAE, are openly criticizing us,” she stated.

According to her, some regional partners believe the UK is abandoning them amid rising tensions.

“They think that we’re abandoning them. If your main idea is that we will only take action when we are attacked instead of handling possible dangers as they come, then we will end up in a lot of trouble,” Badenoch warned.

Responding to concerns about her support for potential British involvement in military strikes against Iran, Badenoch maintained that her position reflects realism rather than aggression.

“Being realistic doesn’t mean being overly eager. I don’t want a wider war,” she said.

“Sometimes the best way to calm a situation down is to try to finish it quickly, instead of letting it go on and on because you don’t want to get involved.”

Her remarks come amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East following the reported attack on UK military installations.
