The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has launched an investigation into a viral video in which a man allegedly claims responsibility for multiple killings.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command has activated processes to verify the claims and identify those involved.

According to the police, the individual identified in the video as “Shawama” was seen alongside others, allegedly boasting of killing 32 people.

However, the command clarified that there is no record of such a person having been arrested by its operatives.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point,” the statement read.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the video and the credibility of the claims made.

The police added that the probe is being conducted using advanced digital tools, including forensic analysis and digital footprint tracking, to ensure a thorough and credible outcome.

“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome,” the command stated.

The police also called on members of the public to assist with useful information that could aid in identifying and apprehending the suspect and any accomplices.

“The Command appeals to anyone with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the individual to come forward,” the statement added.

The command assured residents that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
